Window Replacement Cost Calculator
Calculate the cost of replacing windows in your home with our per-window pricing calculator. Window replacement improves energy efficiency, curb appeal, and comfort, but costs vary widely depending on window type, frame material, glass options, and installation method. Our tool lets you specify the number and style of windows you plan to replace and provides a detailed cost breakdown covering both materials and professional installation labor.
Window frame material is one of the primary cost drivers. Vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option and offer good thermal performance with virtually no maintenance. Wood frames provide a traditional appearance and excellent insulation but require periodic painting or staining. Fiberglass frames combine durability with strong thermal performance and can be painted to match your home. Aluminum frames are lightweight and slim-profiled but conduct heat more readily and are typically used in milder climates. Within each frame type, costs also vary by window style, with double-hung, casement, sliding, bay, and bow windows each carrying different price points based on their size and operating mechanism.
Glass specification is another important factor in both cost and long-term energy savings. Double-pane insulated glass is the current standard, while triple-pane glass provides superior insulation in cold climates at a higher cost. Low-emissivity coatings, argon or krypton gas fills between panes, and warm-edge spacer systems all improve thermal performance. Installation costs depend on whether you are doing a full-frame replacement, which involves removing the entire window down to the rough opening, or an insert replacement that fits a new window into the existing frame. Full-frame replacement costs more but allows for inspection and repair of the surrounding structure and is recommended when there is evidence of water damage or deterioration around the opening.
